The short version: Dwelln stores your home and maintenance information so it can remind you what needs doing and share it with the people you invite. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites. You can delete your account in the app at any time.

Who we are

Dwelln is made by Acadia AI LLC, Maine, United States ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Dwelln app for iPhone, the Dwelln web app, and dwelln.app. Contact us at support@dwelln.app.

What we collect

  • Account information: your email address and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the name on that account. You can sign in with Apple, with Google, with a link we email you, or with an email address and password. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication. If you use a password, Firebase stores it; we never see it.
  • Your home data: the dwellings you add, their name, address, notes, region and the equipment and inventory you select; your maintenance tasks, their schedules, notes, tags and completion history; and who each dwelling is shared with. This is stored in Google Cloud Firestore.
  • Photos: if you add a photo of your home or attach photos to a task, we upload those photos and store them privately with that dwelling. Dwelln only receives the photos you pick or take. It does not browse your photo library.
  • Location: only if you tap "Use my location" while adding a home. Dwelln then asks for permission and sends your device's current position to our servers once, to look up your street address and an aerial image of it through Google Maps. We don't store the position or the aerial image. We do store the address you confirm, as part of your home data. If you type your address instead, the text you type is sent to Google Maps to suggest matching addresses.
  • Reminder settings and notification token: if you turn on reminders, we store your device's push token, your reminder time and your time zone, so our servers can send your maintenance reminders and tell you when someone you share a dwelling with changes a task.
  • Calendar connection: only if you connect a calendar. See Calendars below.
  • Device identifier: a random identifier that Dwelln creates and keeps on your device. We use it only to prevent abuse of the free plan. It is not your device's advertising identifier and we don't use it to track you.
  • Purchases: if you subscribe, Apple processes the payment and sends us your subscription status and transaction details. We use them to unlock your plan and keep it correct. We never receive your card details.
  • Crash reports and diagnostics: when the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a report to Sentry, our crash-reporting provider. The report includes technical details such as the device model, operating system, app version and what the app was doing just before, along with your account identifier so we can match it to a support request. It does not include your email address. The app also sends a sample of performance measurements to Sentry and to our own servers. Errors on our servers are recorded in Google Cloud and can include your account identifier.

Dwelln does not access your contacts, and it does not use your microphone.

How we use it

Only to run Dwelln for you: sign you in, store and sync your home data across your devices, send your maintenance reminders and updates about shared dwellings, keep your calendar in step if you connected one, share dwellings with the people you invite, keep your plan correct, prevent abuse of the free plan, and find and fix problems.

Sharing with people you invite

When you invite someone to a dwelling, you give us their email address. We don't email them; they see the invite when they sign in to Dwelln with that address. Once they join, everyone on that dwelling can see and change its details, tasks, photos and history, and can see each other's names. We share your information with other people only in this way, when you or another member deliberately shares a dwelling.

Calendars

  • Google Calendar: if you connect it, you sign in to Google and allow Dwelln to manage only calendars that Dwelln itself creates. We create one calendar called "Dwelln" and keep your task due dates in it. If you move one of those events in Google Calendar, Dwelln moves the task's due date to match. We can't see your other calendars or events. To do this our servers store an access token from Google, encrypted, and the email address of the Google account you connected. When you disconnect in Dwelln's settings, we delete the Dwelln calendar from your Google account, cancel our access, and delete the token.
  • Apple Calendar: if you add it, your calendar subscribes to a private web address that lists your task names and due dates. Dwelln doesn't read your Apple calendars. Anyone who has that address can see those task names and due dates, so don't share it. Turning the subscription off in Dwelln's settings, or deleting your account, disables the address.

What we don't do

  • We do not sell or rent your personal information.
  • We do not show advertising.
  • We do not track you: we don't use advertising or cross-app tracking tools, we don't use your device's advertising identifier, and we don't share your data with data brokers.
  • We do not build advertising profiles about you.

Who else handles your data

We use these service providers to run Dwelln. They process data on our behalf and only for the purposes below.

  • Google Firebase and Google Cloud: sign-in, our database, private photo storage, our servers, push notification delivery, app integrity checks, and our server error logs and performance traces.
  • Google Maps Platform: address suggestions, address lookup from your location, and the aerial image when you add a home.
  • Google Calendar: only if you connect it.
  • Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases and subscription status, push notification delivery, and app integrity checks.
  • Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.): crash and performance reporting for the app.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect people's safety or our rights. If Dwelln is ever sold or merged into another company, your information would move with it under this policy, and we'd tell you first.

Keeping and deleting it

We keep your data while your account exists.

  • A task: removing a task takes it out of your task lists and calendars, while keeping its maintenance history in the dwelling.
  • A dwelling: deleting a dwelling you own removes it, its tasks and its maintenance history for everyone on it. Its photo files are not yet removed automatically when you delete just that dwelling; email us and we'll remove them.
  • Your account: you can delete your account at any time in Dwelln under Settings → Delete account. Before anything is deleted, Dwelln shows you exactly what will happen. Dwellings only you are on are deleted with their tasks, history and photos. A dwelling you own that other people are also on is handed to the member who has been on it longest, so their home isn't lost; you are removed from it. You're removed from dwellings other people own. Your invites, your device's free-plan record, your Apple Calendar address, your reminder settings, your push tokens and your sign-in account are deleted. Tasks you completed in a dwelling that carries on stay in its history, recorded against an identifier that no longer belongs to any account. If you connected Google Calendar, disconnect it in Settings before deleting your account so the Dwelln calendar and our access to it are removed too. You can also email us and we'll delete your account for you.
  • What we keep: records of App Store transactions, which we keep for accounting and legal reasons. Crash reports and server logs are kept for a limited time and then deleted automatically on our providers' retention schedules.

Deleting the app from your phone doesn't delete your account. Cancelling a subscription doesn't either; manage subscriptions in your Apple ID settings.

Your choices

You can turn reminders off in Dwelln's settings, and notifications off in the iOS Settings app. You can turn off Dwelln's access to your location, photos or camera at any time in the iOS Settings app; Dwelln still works without them, as you can type your address and photos are optional. You can disconnect a calendar in Dwelln's settings. You can ask us for a copy of your data or ask us to correct it by emailing us, and you can delete your account in the app.

Children

Dwelln isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
